Sector Gym

After conducting some research through a survey, I found that 18% of people aren’t comfortable in the gym due to feeling out of place, and as a result, are reluctant to take up space. 100% of the those people were women.

This project’s goal was to combat these feelings with smart and thoughtful design solutions. This project resulted in my introduction to interior design techniques, which snowballed into my love of designing 3D spaces. By merging this new skillset with my developing branding knowledge, Sector was created.

Community was at the forefront when developing this project, so ideas like gym pods and gendered areas weren’t going to cut it. This gym needed to communicate that it was a welcoming space for everyone. By using smart interior design techniques such as colour-changing overhead lighting and designated spaces, boundaries were being communicated without the use of words. Additional safety measures were incorporated throughout the space to normalise them, and to support users 24/7.
