Bodies

In today’s day and age, the way we view our bodies in increasingly alarming. The media can significantly impact body image by promoting unrealistic beauty standards, leading to body dissatisfaction. Appearance related concerns have increased significantly among young people, three in four 7-16 year olds don’t feel confident about how they look.

I designed an interactive exhibition taking the user through experiences created to question how they view their body, with the aim of encouraging self acceptance. These stages included activities such as 3D scanning and printing their body. Putting my money where my mouth is, I got my body scanned and printed to test the validity of the experience. It lead to lots of thoughts and feelings about body, which opened up the discussion to my tutors and peers about their own bodies. Ultimately, I think this experience made others think differently about how they view themselves, and started an important conversation about body acceptance.
